But the end of the month is one of the most fun activities of the year for kids – Trick-or-Treating. more For all that are wondering, the Kenosha Trick-or-Treating hours for 2013 are from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. These hours are for the City of Kenosha. We were excited to see that Trick-or-Treating is being held on the actual Halloween day. There’s something about being out on the official day that makes it more exciting than usual. But, maybe that’s just us. But as excited as we are for Kenosha Trick-or-Treating here at Palmen Motors, we also want to remind everyone going out to be safe. We’ve included some Halloween safety tips below so you and the kids can be sure to enjoy a safe Halloween. Traveling in groups is always a good idea. Halloween Safety Tips Costume Tips: The first tip might not be that obvious as you are looking through costumes at the store. Make sure to buy a costume that is flame resistant. With all of the jack-o-lanterns and candles lit, this is a no-brainer. Also, before the kids go out, it’s a good idea to affix some reflective tape to the costume so cars are sure to see them. If face paint is used, be sure that it is FDA approved, as some others can cause allergic reactions. Walking Tips: Always make sure that you are either with the kids at all times, or they are going with a group. And if they are walking from house to house, make sure they are actually walking – not running. Also, while crossing the street may be necessary at times, make sure it is done in the crosswalk – and tell the kids to stay on the sidewalk as much as possible. These are just a few tips from your friends at Palmen Motors. Now enjoy your Halloween!

Keep your dog safe by seating him or her properly in the vehicle

Where Should My Dog Sit in My Car? Sure he wants to sit here, but it's actually not good for him. Here at Palmen Motors, we sell some very pet-friendly vehicles. And for many drivers, there’s nothing like heading down the open roads with their best friend next to them. But if that best friend is a dog, there are some things to keep in mind to make sure that he or she is safe in your vehicle. For many, it’s a simple answer to the question “ Where should my dog sit in my car?” more We’ve all seen a dog with its head hanging out a vehicle’s window, catching the wind in its face. Or even a dog that is riding in the bed of a truck. While the dog may seem to be enjoying both of these situations, they actually aren’t the safest spots for a dog to be in a car. Obviously, the bed of a truck can be very dangerous as the dog will likely get injured or worse if the vehicle stops abruptly. But many people don’t know that letting a dog stick its head out the window is pretty unsafe as well. Can we all agree that this isn't safe for a dog? When a dog has its head out the window, it can easily be hit by debris or even fall out of the vehicle. Prolonged exposure to the wind can also irritate the dog’s mucous membranes or blow dirt and grit into its eyes. It’s okay to give the dog a quick sniff of the outside air or to have its head out briefly, but a prolonged period of time can damage the dog’s health and be risk for injury. What is the Safest Spot for a Dog? So, where should my dog sit in my car? Well, the back seat is actually the safest spot. A dog in the front seat can be distracting and it can also be dangerous for the dog in the event of a collision. Whereas the back seat keeps the dog safest in the event of an accident and keeps the distractions at bay. It may be tough to deny him of his favorite seat, but it’s worth not putting him in harm’s way.

These are experts from the respected Cars.com and USA Today that drove the six vehicles in the category. Ram gets technical to save fuel on full-size trucks

Ram Stop-Start Technology Ram has gotten technical to save gas on the newest version of the truck. Finding new ways to save fuel is all the rage with car companies these days. And this includes full-size trucks – although the process can obviously be more difficult in this segment. For Ram, one of the technologies it has implemented is the Ram Stop-Start technology. It seems simple enough, but there are actually a lot of things going on to make the 2013 Ram 1500 in Kenosha as fuel efficient as it is. So let’s take a look at what the Ram Stop-Start technology is all about. more In its simplest explanation, the Ram Stop-Start technology literally stops and starts the engine to save fuel when the truck isn’t moving. This process comes on Ram models fitted with both the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine and the 5.7-liter V8 HEMI. The system stops the vehicle’s engine when the truck comes to a complete stop. This doesn’t happen every time though, as the system is actually smart enough to know what kind of stop is being made. Therefore, when it deems in necessary, the engine stays running during brief stops. And the engine can restart itself during long stopping periods if the car gets too hot or too cold and AC or heat needs to come on. So the Ram Stop-Start technology seems like a great thing – but surely it will wear out the starter, battery and everything else eventually, right? The folks at Ram were way ahead of us on this one. They fitted the Ram with heavy-duty components meant to withstand constant stopping and starting conditions. So each time your truck stops and starts, you don’t have to worry about it being one more check against the starter, alternator or battery. And the testing numbers are there to prove it, as Ram put the new starter through 300,000 on/off cycles – much more than the traditional measures. So as you can see, Ram seems to have it covered when it comes to next-level fuel saving techniques. The fact that the company is always on the cutting edge is one of the many reasons we are proud to be a Gurnee, Antioch and Kenosha area Ram dealer. The 2013 Ram 1500 is a truck build with technology in mind.
